How to Dispute HOA Parking & Commercial Vehicle Fines

Attack the Definition

Many HOAs fine a personal pickup or van as a "commercial vehicle." Check the CC&Rs for the exact definition. If your vehicle does not meet it (no commercial plates, no signage, under the weight limit), the fine fails.

• The vehicle does not match the governing document's definition
• The rule is selectively enforced against you
• You parked on a public street outside the HOA's jurisdiction
• The HOA gave no notice or hearing before fining

Pull the precise language defining prohibited vehicles and where the restriction applies.

Step 2: Document Everything

Photograph your vehicle, plates, and where it was parked, plus neighbors' similar vehicles that were not cited.

Step 3: Send a Dispute Letter
